UMaine Veterans Week activities scheduled for November 6-12


ORONO – The University of Maine Veterans Week activities will be held from November 6 to 12, hosted by the Office of Veterans Education and Transition Services in the Division of Student Life, and in cooperation with several campus departments including UMaine Athletics.

On Saturday, November 6, the final home football game of the season, is part of the UMaine Athletics Military Appreciation Series, presented by Dead River Co., to honor military men and women. The partnership, now in its sixth year, offers all service members, veterans and their immediate family members free tickets to each of the selected games. Student veterans and their families can also receive game tickets by contacting the VETS office, 143 Memorial Union.

On Monday, November 8, there will be two Veterans’ Week events for the public, starting with a flag ceremony at 11 a.m. at the mall in front of the Fogler Library. The ceremony in honor of the veteran community will be followed at 11:30 am by a panel discussion focusing on the experience of veteran students. The panel discussion in the Coe Room will shed light on the issues and concerns facing veteran students, and identify people and resources to help the community.

Events for veteran students during the rest of the week include coffee and donuts on Tuesday, November 9, lunch vouchers on Wednesday, November 10, as well as pizza and a movie on Friday, November 12, all available at the office. VETS.
