Uddhav Thackeray removes Eknath Shinde from Shiv Sena for ‘anti-party activities’

Uddhav Thackeray removed Eknath Shinde from the post of Shiv Sena chief, amid the latter assuming the post of Chief Minister of Maharashtra. In a letter to Shinde, Thackeray cited his alleged “anti-party activities” and highlighted his boycott of Shiv Sena membership.

“You engaged in anti-party activities and also voluntarily renounced your membership in Shivsena,” Thackeray’s letter read. “Therefore, in exercise of the powers vested in me as Shivsena Paksha Pramukh, I am removing you from the position of leader of Shivsena in the party organization.”

Notably, this comes just two days before the vote of confidence in which Shinde would prove the majority of the BJP-Shiv Sena coalition on July 4. for the monsoon season.

Eknath Shinde speaks to the Republic

CM Shinde, in an exclusive chat with Republic, discussed the mistakes made by the Thackeray government and what his administration would do differently. Asked about the Palghar incident and Balasaheb Thackeray’s devotion to Hindutva ideology, Shinde hinted that Shiv Sena under the tenure of Uddhav Thackeray made many mistakes and a few MPs tried to fix these errors but failed. “But now there will be no more such mistakes in our government,” Shinde added.

The CM also addressed their decision regarding the Mumbai Metro 3 car shed, which Uddhav Thackeray said was Shinde’s way of expressing his anger. Shinde said his government would not operate in anger and insisted he would try to complete all pending projects in the state on schedule.

During the interview, Shinde also reiterated that he and his fellow party members are Balasaheb Thackeray’s Shiv Sainiks and Shiv Sena MPs. He also assured that MPs who were part of the rebellion have not left the party and have no intention of dealing a blow to Shiv Sena or Uddhav Thackeray.
