Full list of summer activities on offer organized by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council


FAMILIES across the borough can enjoy a host of free activities in central Basingstoke this summer.

With the summer holidays here, Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council will be hosting Fri-yay Fun – a packed program of family fun between 11am and 3pm every Friday in August in War Memorial Park and Top of the Town.

Kick off the school holidays supporting small businesses and the self employed with the return of the Borough Basket Street Market between 11am and 4.30pm on Friday 29th July.

On Friday August 5th and coinciding with Love Parks week, families can explore their wild side with free activities and workshops throughout the day hosted by the council’s natural environment team.

And explore “Bees!” The Colony’ by Artizani, a beautifully handcrafted bee hive installation with copper roofs and corners. Audiences can wander among the honey-scented, sometimes smoke-covered colony of bees, finding a variety of ways to view and interact with the content. Performances will take place between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. and between 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.

On Friday, August 12, catch Fusion Extreme’s BMX Jump Box show that launches world-class pro riders into the air to perform jaw-dropping stunts. Expect back flips, front flips, supermans, tailwhips, 360 and 720 spins. The team will also run workshops throughout the day for young people to try their hand at BMX.

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council Leader Cllr Simon Bound said: ‘With the school holidays approaching and the rising cost of living hitting families hard, many parents will be looking for what they can. do to entertain their children and not break the bank.

“We are thrilled to bring you a fantastic range of free and fun activities throughout downtown and in one of the borough’s most beloved parks. Not only will this provide a great free day for the whole family, but we hope the activities will inspire families with new ideas for activities they can enjoy together all summer long.”

Repeaters can also join Provision events between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Market Place with their baseball, tennis, and cricket simulator. It is suitable for all abilities.

Inspired by the lasting legacy of the London 2012 Olympics, catch Same Difference Arts’ Wonky Olympics show at War Memorial Park at 11am, 12.30pm and 2pm on Friday August 19th. Paying homage to their hero, the noble Lord Coe, two unfortunate physical education teachers decided to recreate the games with cones, hoops and a small megaphone. It’s a comedic act that will get you moving.

Fancy a game of ping-pong? Join Joe Garbett Dance’s “Doubles” show at Market Place with performances from 12-12:30pm and 1:30-2pm. This colorful show features a ping-pong table on which the public can play from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

At the end of August there will be plenty of fun activities on offer alongside the Borough Basket Street Market which takes place between 11am and 4.30pm in Market Place on Friday 26th August.

Families can also enjoy a free nine-hole mini-golf course on London Street every Friday of the month between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
